Situated along the vibrant Red Sea coast within the bustling Yanbu Industrial City, the Yanbu Power & Desalination Phase III project represents a significant leap forward in Saudi Arabia's quest for sustainable and integrated energy solutions. Completed in 2020, under the auspices of SWCC and in collaboration with SEPCO3, this project stands as a dual-purpose marvel, adept at addressing the burgeoning needs for electricity and fresh water through cutting-edge technological integration. Alpha Technical Services (ATS) was at the forefront, providing specialized installation services that were crucial for the operational success of this ambitious endeavor.
This state-of-the-art facility is not only an energy powerhouse, with a capacity to generate 2700 MW of power, but also a lifeline that produces 550,000m³/day of desalinated water, catering to the critical needs of Yanbu Industrial City and beyond. Its dual functionality underscores a strategic approach to resource management and environmental conservation.
Power Generation: The plant prides itself on being the first in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) to operate a supercritical power plant using heavy fuel oil, setting a new standard in energy efficiency and environmental stewardship.
Water Desalination: With the deployment of Multistage Flash (MSF) desalination technology, complemented by six massive plug-n-play MFD evaporators, the plant showcases an advanced method of turning seawater into fresh water, ensuring a sustainable water supply for the region.
Alpha Technical Services contributed significantly to the project by undertaking the installation services for critical components within the Steam Turbine & Generator Building, among other process buildings and external areas. ATS's involvement was instrumental in ensuring that the plant's infrastructure was robust, reliable, and ready to meet the operational demands of this large-scale facility.
Electrical Infrastructure: The installation of cable trays, conduits, and cable pulling by ATS laid the groundwork for a comprehensive and reliable electrical distribution system.
Power Backup and Safety: The setup of UPS systems & batteries and an advanced illumination system ensured uninterrupted power supply and visibility, enhancing the plant's operational safety and efficiency.
Protection Systems: With a focus on safety, ATS also implemented an earthing and lightning protection system, safeguarding the facility against electrical surges and lightning strikes.
The successful completion of the Yanbu Power & Desalination Phase III project, with Alpha Technical Services playing a key role, marks a milestone in Saudi Arabia's infrastructure development.
